Project description
The Bratislava Book Festival contributes to the development of cultural infrastructure and increases sensitivity to the quality of book production. Concerning the Slovak cultural public society, the festival also fulfils the role of the largest international exhibition of literature, book art and other related creative industries, based on the principle of non-commercial motivation and high added value. The festival programme consists of discussion panels, meetings with authors, lectures, workshops, film and theatre productions, performances, and concerts. The multi-genre nature of the festival results from the perception of the book because of a combination of verbal activity (text) and visual-creative activity (illustration, typesetting, design), with frequent overlaps into performative genres (theatrical and film adaptations, music). At the same time, the festival creates preconditions for connecting professionals and laypeople representing various interests to intensify contacts and cooperation between the domestic and foreign creative environment. The festival aims to support and promote the concept of biblical diversity in Slovakia and to strengthen the community of small publishers.
